    Oceans Reflect and Reflect

In English, we have also been writing letters to Isacc with a clear purpose to either inform or reassure him. The children have explored how characters may express empathy by sharing similar emotions and experiences . They have also considered how characters might respond to important questions by suggesting possible answers or encouraging others to discover answers for themselves. Throughout these activities, the children have focused on using persuasive language, ambitious vocabulary, and well-structured sentences to engage the reader effectively.

Next term, we will begin exploring our new class text, The Iron Man. Through this exciting story, the children will develop their reading comprehension, prediction, inference, and creative writing skills.

As mathematicians, we have continued  learning about time. We have practised telling the time to the hour, half hour, quarter past, and quarter to. We have also explored minutes and intervals of time, solving problems involving durations and reading timetables. The children have enjoyed using clocks and applying their understanding to real-life situations.

Next term, we will be moving on to statistics. The children will learn how to collect, interpret and present data using pictograms, bar charts, and tables, as well as answer questions about the information they gather. We will also continue to develop problem-solving and reasoning skills through practical and engaging activities.

As scientists, we have come to the end of our unit on habitats. We have really enjoyed researching habitats, classification, and adaptation of different animals.  We explored and discovered how they have adapted to survive in their environments. The children showed great curiosity and enthusiasm while investigating living things and their habitats.

On Thursday, both Indian and Arctic classes will take part in an exciting Science in Action workshop delivered by the University of Oxford Department of Biochemistry. This hands-on workshop will give the children the opportunity to explore science through practical investigations and exciting experiments, helping to inspire curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Next week is RE Week, where the children will be exploring the inquiry question: “What motivates Humanists to lead a good life?” Throughout the week, the children will take part in thoughtful discussions, collaborative activities, and reflection tasks to help them understand different beliefs, values, and perspectives. This will encourage respectful discussion and support the children in developing empathy and understanding of the wider world.

    Notes  -

Home learning has been sent out with all children. This week, they have spelling and handwriting as well as a maths sheet on time. Year 4’s must be practising their times tables as we approach the assessment. All children should be reading daily. They have their library books and access to Oxford Reading Buddy, again if you have any questions or require your child’s login details, please email us. Please support your child to complete these tasks, if you are unsure then please get in touch with your child’s class teacher.

We have been unable to reschedule the visit to Christchurch. All refunds are being processed. If you have paid on MCAS please send any queries to the office.

    New app information

After half term we will be sharing news with you via a different app, Juniper Education, which you can download from your app store. Look out for an email inviting you to join coming soon.

    Have a lovely weekend.
