    Islands Reflect & Review

15 May 2026 (by Stefan Mitsis (Stefan))

What another great week of learning we have had in Islands as we approach the final week of term! The children have continued to show creativity, resilience, and enthusiasm across all of their lessons.

In Art, we have continued developing our printing skills. This week, the children explored using polystyrene tiles to create their own prints. They carefully pressed outlines and patterns into the surface before applying paint and printing their designs onto paper. The children enjoyed experimenting with different textures, shapes, and repeated patterns, and it was fantastic to see how confident they have become with artistic techniques and processes.

In English, we are beginning to approach the end of using The Jolly Postman as our writing stimulus. The children have worked incredibly hard throughout this unit, developing their understanding of letters, storytelling, and character perspectives. They have shown growing confidence in their writing and have enjoyed immersing themselves in the world of the story through role play, discussion, and creative activities.

In PE, the children have continued working hard in tennis. They have been developing their coordination and control by practising how to hold and use a racket correctly, bounce the ball with greater accuracy, and pass the ball carefully to a partner. The children have also begun applying these skills in small games and challenges, showing improving confidence and teamwork.

As we move closer to the Phonics Screening Check after the May half term, we would really appreciate your continued support at home. Please continue practising phonics regularly with your child. Encourage them to spot the “special friends” first, then segment the sounds carefully before blending the word together. This consistent practice makes a huge difference to children’s confidence and fluency when reading.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and come back refreshed and ready for our final week of term!
