Explorers Reflect and Review8 May 2026 (by Andy Gilbert (Andy)) |
Summer Term
This week in Explorers, we have been practicing drawing human anatomy to scale and proportion. We have been sketching using the 8-head rule: a figure drawing technique that standardises the human body height to eight times the length of the head. In our sketchbooks we created wireframe ‘skeletons’ in different poses - concentrating on keeping the separate elements of the body proportional.
In English, we have continued to focus our writing on the Adventures of Odysseus. This week, Odysseus’s trials have come to an end and he has returned to Ithaca: alone, unknown and with trouble, rather than a welcome, waiting for him.
In Maths, Endurance has been plotting coordinates and translating shapes on grids. Beagle have been looking at fractions of amounts, while Endeavour has focussed on revision ahead of next week's SATs.
If you have a child sitting SATs next week, please remind them that tests are a normal part of their learning journey and nothing to worry about. Everyone at St Frideswides is proud of the effort they have put into their learning.
Homelearning:
Beagle - times table and spelling tasks
Endeavour - Reading Plus and Third Space
Endurance - Maths p97-98, Reading Plus and Third Space
Next week there is no swimming on Monday.
The following Monday, 18th May, swimming will be a Summer Water Safety session specifically aimed at practicing self rescue skills, learning about water safety and raising awareness of how to stay safe in and around water.
In addition to their swim wear, all children will need loose fitting light weight pyjamas, or T-shirt and shorts. No onesies or heavy tracksuits.
It is vital that all children make the effort to attend this session - it could save their life!
