    Moorhen Reflect and Review

6 May 2026 (by Lisa Brown (LisaB))

    A New House for Mouse...

This week the children in Moorhens have started a new book 'A new house for Mouse'. We will be exploring this book as we use it to support all our learning. We have started by learning about different habitats and what different animals, creatures and bugs need to help them survive. The children demonstrated amazing team work, listening skills and an ability to follow instructions as they made their very own 'Ant World'. It was a bit tricky at times so they had to work collaberatively to do some problem solving!

Next week we will continue to build upon this story as we start looking into the habitats of other woodland animals in the story, friendship, homes, mapping skills and how we help one another. We have thought about the materials we are going to use to make new homes for the animals outside - a wormery, bug houses, dig holes and build hedgehog houses so they can have hideaways.

In art the children thought about different bugs and how they could use [paint in different ways to  mix new tones, create shades and show texture. The bugs created will be a reflection of their learning in art as they begin to think about mpovement. Next week we will be using clay to make models of new woodland animals that we can then make a habitat for.
