Oceans Reflect and Review17 April 2026 (by Sereeta Raj-Singh (Sereeta)) |
Busy first week back
This week as writers, we have continued exploring traditional tales, focusing on The Three Little Pigs and The Billy Goats Gruff. The children used storyboards to help them plan and retell their own versions of these stories, thinking carefully about the sequence of events. They showed great creativity by adding their own twists and imaginative ideas, which helped to develop their confidence in structuring narratives and using descriptive language. Some very creative ideas and stories have been developed!
Next week, we will begin our new topic, The Rhythm of the Rain, where we will explore the water cycle through the text.
As Mathematicians, we have begun our new unit on decimals in Indian while in Arctic, we looked at notes and coins. The children have been learning about tenths as fractions, decimals, and how to represent them on a place value chart. They have shown a good understanding of how tenths relate to whole numbers. Next week, we will extend this learning by exploring hundredths and making connections between fractions and decimals in more depth.
We are now 6 weeks away from the start of the Multiplication Test. Please ensure that your child is practising their multiplication tables at home. Daily fluency will be key to children’s preparation for the test.
As Geographers, we have been learning about rivers and their importance to people, paying close attention to the River Nile. The children explored how rivers are used for water, transport, and farming, and why they are vital to human settlements. As part of our learning, the children carried out an experiment using cress seeds to design a valley. They observed what happens when there is no water supply reaching the cress, helping them understand the importance of water for growth and the impact of drought on environments.
During Spanish we have started our new topic of ‘ La Clase’ (the classroom). We have learnt the names of six classroom objects using the correct article and determiner. Next week, we will learn a further six objects.
PE is on Mondays for all ocean children. Please ensure your child comes wearing their PE kits.
On Thursday, all children in Oceans will take part in enriched afternoons, participating in Karate and Musical Theatre. These sessions provide exciting opportunities for children to develop new skills, build confidence, and express themselves in different ways.
This term we are moving on to talk about relationships and changes and boys and girls. If you would like any further information about PSHE lessons this term, please speak to your child’s teacher.
Home Learning
