A week packed full of wonderful learning opportunities
As mathematicians, the Reception children have been developing their understanding of numbers 9 and 10, exploring how numbers can be represented in different ways and building on their counting skills.
Our Pre-School children have been introduced to length and height, beginning to use mathematical language such as tall, short, long and short, and comparing objects through practical, hands-on activities.
As readers and writers, the Reception children have continued practising their Read Write Inc. Set 1 sounds, blending and reading their ditty sheets and books. They explored the poem “A Little Seed”, listened to the story The Leaky Bucket, and took part in Tales Toolkit storytelling, developing their imagination and confidence in speaking. The children also completed “My Favourite Toy” writing, using their phonics knowledge to write about something special to them.
In Pre-School, the children enjoyed NELI sessions based on “Little Red Riding Hood”, alongside Tales Toolkit storytelling and Phase 1 phonics, helping to develop their listening, attention and communication skills.
As historians, the Reception children have been learning about toys from the past and present. They explored a range of old and modern toys, discussing what they are made from and how they work. The children sorted toys into past and present and talked about the differences, helping them to understand how toys – and life – have changed over time.
Pre-School children also began to explore the idea that things can be old or new, building early understanding of how the world has changed over time.
As artists and creators, the took part in observational drawings of spring flowers and ink drawings, oil pastels and water colour paints, carefully looking at shapes, colours and details.
As explorers of the natural world, the Reception children used iPads to take photographs of signs of Spring during Forest School, helping them to observe changes in the environment and talk about what they could see.
Pre-School children also explored their environment, beginning to notice changes and talk about what they observe around them.
As active learners, Reception children have continued to develop their fine motor skills through handwriting sessions, Pen Disco and Squiggle Me Into a Writer.
Pre-School children have been building their physical development through Danny Go, Pen Disco, Write Dance and Tatty Bumpkins, supporting coordination and early writing skills.
