    Explorers Reflect and Review

20 March 2026 (by Andy Gilbert (Andy))

    Nearly the end of term!

This week in Explorers we have been curious scientists, visiting the Curiosity Cube and finding out about synthetic biology, DNA and genes.

Beagle have been engineers, designing and building their own rovers for distant planets, thinking about the problems their rovers might encounter and what solutions they will need to create.

As mathematicians, Year 6 have been revising percentage of amounts and have been solving problems using coordinates while Year 5 have continued to focus on decimals and equivalent fractions. Beagle have continued filling their gaps, thinking about how to double and halve accurately.

This week we have been planning, writing and (Year 6) editing our own stories based on our class text, Cosmic.

As artists, we have been thinking about what we would like our message to be and creating activism posters, loudly and proudly sharing them. We have explored collage and layering as well as using different types of lettering and a very simple version of screen printing.

Next week, ahead of the Easter holiday, will be RE week. We’ll be answering the question: How significant is it for Christians to believe that God intended for Jesus to die.

We also have our trip to London on Thursday: Science Museum and Hercules at the Drury Lane Theatre. We were fortunate to have received a grant from Oxford City Council to subsidise this trip: bringing down the cost to £35 per child. Please ensure that you have paid for (or contributed towards) the trip via the My Child a School app.

Children need to arrive at school by 7.50 in order for the coach to leave at 8.00. We aim to be back at 6.30 and will jot when we know our arrival time. The trip brings our space unit to a close and marks the beginning of our topic for next term: Greek gods.

    Homelearning:
Beagle - spelling sheet and Learn It challenge - please practice these with your child so they know them off by heart.
Year 6: White Rose p71-74, spelling 48-49 as well as time on third space.
Year 6: Sumdog: Andy’s tricky decimal challenge (available until 19.00 Thursday)

    Have a great weekend
