    The Pod reflect and review

    7 March 2026 (by Sarah Colverson-Martin (Sarah))

This week we have been busy continuing to look at our new topic ‘garden explorers and mini beasts’

This week we have been reading the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and tasting some of the different fruits that the caterpillar tries in the story.

We have also been exploring the topic book Mad About Minibeasts, which inspired our book door decoration to celebrate World Book Day.

Thursday’s World Book Day was very well supported, with lots of the children coming to nursery dressed in their pyjamas or as characters from their favourite stories. We were very lucky to have some of the year 6 children visit us and share stories.

We have also been learning about different celebrations from around the world. The children carefully observed daffodils and used different shades of yellow and green paint to create their own pictures. To celebrate Chinese New Year, we added beansprouts, water chestnuts, cabbage and Pak Choi to the home corner for the children to explore.

Some of the children helped to plant seeds that will grow into different flowers and herbs, while others helped plant herbs in the garden. Any donations of plants or bulbs would be very much appreciated to help us continue developing our planting and growing garden.

It was lovely to see some sunshine this week, and we made the most of it by spending lots of time in the garden. The children practised their throwing, catching and kicking skills, as well as hitting balls with rackets.

We would like to invite you to our next Stay and Play session, which will take place on Wednesday 18th March from 8:15am. This is a great opportunity for you to speak with your child’s key person and to gain an insight into your child’s day.

A reminder that school will finish at 11:15am on Friday 27th March for the Easter holidays. We will reopen on Monday 13th April.

We hope you all have a great weekend.
