    Week 5 Reflect and Review

6 February 2026 (by Delaney Reynolds (Delaney))

Traction Man, Robots, and The Mulberry Bush Curriculum

This week Moorhens class continued to read and dissect Traction Man is Here by Mini Grey. Together we discussed perspective and description in the book, and noticed how vivid adjectives transform scenes, from how a kitchen counter can suddenly present as a cliff to a carpet being reimagined as a pool. We read the last of the book, and made predictions about what adventures Traction Man may go on next.

For Topic, we began a new unit: Robots. We began the unit by discussing what robots are, how they may look, and their many purposes. Today we did some engineering. Our class received Lego WeDo kits and iPads with instructions on how to engineer their own machines. Each child picked out their own machine model with a small motor, and carefully built it step by step with guided instructions. Keying in on this project helped the class strengthen their focus, problem solving skills, and confidence. We all loved looking at how our models came out!

Today our Mulberry Bush Curriculum unit this week was Understanding My Feelings. Throughout the week we discussed remembering things that make us feel better when we are upset. Some key vocabulary we focused on was "help me" "feel better" "confident" and "calm". The lesson today was creating jigsaw pieces and illustrating them with things we are good at. This helped remind us of our strengths, and gave us an opportunity to share our strengths with each other. This was a lovely end to our week!
