Explorers into space
This week in Aegean, we have been exploring why explorers from the past looked different compared to explorers today. We used “spot the difference” activities to make this learning engaging and accessible. The children discussed how explorers “then” had far less access to medical treatment and technology than we do now, and how this impacted their expeditions.
Building on the children’s ongoing learning about explorers and their growing interest in space, we have been following news about the possible NASA Artemis 11 mission. We are looking forward to exploring space in more depth after half term.
In language and literacy, we have gone slightly off track to follow the children’s interests by using Artemis 11 as a stimulus. This has supported the children in recognising the key features of a newspaper article, before beginning to plan and create their own.
In maths, some children took on the challenge of new CLIC activities. Everyone showed fantastic perseverance when faced with new learning. We spent time reflecting on what the children find tricky in maths, followed by 1:1 support to explore these areas together.
During our Mulberry Bush sessions, we focused on respecting everyone regardless of age, gender, race or job title. This naturally led into thoughtful discussions around fairness.
