Working Together: Supporting Positive Behaviour at St Frideswide26 January 2026 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
Dear Parents and Carers,
At St Frideswide, we are committed to creating a calm, safe, and predictable learning environment where every child can thrive. To achieve this, it is essential that our high standards of behaviour are met consistently.
We are writing to share a reminder of our behaviour processes, as outlined in the ODST Behaviour Policy, and to ask for your continued support in helping your children follow these rules at all times.
Our Approach to Behaviour
When a pupil’s behaviour falls below the expected standard, our staff will respond promptly to restore a calm environment and prevent the behaviour from recurring. Our goal is to ensure that misbehaviour is always addressed in a consistent, fair, and proportionate manner.
To support our pupils, staff use:
1.Predictability: Challenging all behaviour that falls short of our standards so pupils know what to expect.
2.De-escalation: Using pre-arranged scripts and phrases to help prevent issues from escalating.
3.Equity: Considering individual factors and personal circumstances behind an incident while maintaining a sense of Justice for all.
4.Support: Looking at what additional help a pupil might need to meet our standards in the future.

The Escalation Process
To help children regulate their actions, we follow a clear escalation path:
1.Adult Reminder: A clear, explicit reminder of the expected behaviour.
2. Second Reminder: Linked to the Zones of Regulation to help the child identify their emotions.
3. Reflection & Regulation (R&R): A short period outside the classroom using a visual timer and age-appropriate resources. Pupils are always welcomed back and given a chance to discuss their reflection.
4. Phase Lead Referral: If two R&R sessions do not resolve the behaviour.
5.Senior Leadership Involvement: For continued unwanted behaviour, a member of the Senior Leadership Team will be called, which may lead to internal exclusion, suspension, or in the most serious cases, permanent exclusion.
How You Can Help
We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is the best way to support your child's success. We kindly ask that you discuss these expectations with your child and reinforce the importance of following school rules.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation in keeping our school a positive place for everyone to learn.
Best regards,
Hannah and Lauren
