Rockpool Weekly Reflect and Review22 January 2026 (by Lisa Brown (LisaB)) |
In our Rockpool classroom we have been using the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar to inspire our learning. This story offers such a wide range of learning opportunities and in our class we have been exploring the story in many ways to meet our learning styles. Some of our children have enjoyed looking at the pop up pictures in the book or sequencing the story for themselves, others have read the story to their friends or used their phonetic knowledge to have a go at writing sentences about the life cycle of a caterpillar. We love making our learning come to life and so we have enjoyed a range of fruit tasting activities, exploring the smells, taste and look of different fruits. We have looked at the life cycle of the caterpillar in the sand, shaving foam and with paints before having a go at making our own life cycles. From threading colours and completing puzzles to crawling like a caterpillar and flapping like butterflies, we have been very busy. Our learning will continue as we discover new ways to enjoy the story. Next week we will be making butterfly masks and wings. Who knows where we may fly off too!
In our musical theatre session we are learning a new song that will help us to identify different parts of our body. We do our stretches and move our body to the music. In musical therapy we are singing familiar songs with the instruments. We are getting good at the guitar and drums now! In our sports hall session we have been focused on using new aparatus and moving in different ways to support our gross motor skills and core strength.
We have been very busy and next week our learning will continue as we begin to learn about ourselves and our families. We will continue to develop our learning around The Very Hungry Caterpillar and will focus on learning more about pattern and sequencing.
Please can we ask that you label your child's water bottle clearly with their name. We have a number of children with the same bottle and it can be hard for the children to identify.
Many thanks
The Rockpool Team
