Silhouettes and chalk to recreate the London Blitz!
An exciting return to school after a restful half term. The children have settled back into term with Endeavour and Endurance splitting into year five and six for the morning session. They have been working on their new text called When We Were Warriors looking at the novella Olive’s Army We've explored the rich descriptions by Emma Carroll and have recreated our own dialogue scenes thinking about how we can convey greater meaning through more detailed writing. In maths, the year 6s have continued their work on multiplication and division and will begin long division next week. Both the year 5s and Beagle class have spent this week looking at fractions.
All three classes have been recreating scenes from World War Two through the use of silhouettes and chalk in art during afternoon. We began by exploring the image of St Pauls survives the Blitz, an iconic image taken after a lengthy bombing campaign. The children recreated the iconic image using paper, chalk and their imagination.
As the days get wetter and wilder, please make sure you child brings a coat to school. If your child has outgrown their coat and you don’t have a home for it, please send it in and we’ll find it a new home with another child. If your child is cycling to school, please remind them of the importance of wearing their helmet, using lights and wearing bright clothing so they can be seen.
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Explorers team.
