Oceans Reflect and Review23 October 2025 (by Beth I) |
We are not quite sure how, but that’s the end of Autumn Term 1!
In Maths, we have continued to build on our understanding of addition and subtraction, with a particular focus on using the column method accurately and confidently. The children have been working hard to apply these skills to solve increasingly challenging problems and to explain their reasoning clearly. We will continue with this when we return.
In English, the class has been busy completing their information brochures on Skara Brae. The children have enjoyed researching this fascinating Stone Age settlement and using their findings to create detailed, well-presented brochures. It’s been fantastic to see their creativity and growing confidence in writing for a specific purpose, as well as consolidating our history learning from September.
In RE, we have been learning about Sikhism, with a focus on the Khalsa and the Amrit Ceremony. We started the week with the children thinking about where they belong. This included children sharing various clubs and religions that they are a part of, as well as their families and of course the St Frideswide community. It was lovely to hear how children considered their own identities and shared their feelings relating to ‘belonging’. By the end of the week, we were thinking deeply about the choices that Sikhs might make and how this impacts their motivations and relationship with their God.
Overall, it’s been a productive and enjoyable half term full of curiosity, hard work, and great progress. We’re really proud of how well the children have engaged with their learning and supported each other. We hope that everyone has a restful break and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Tuesday 4th November!
Notes:
If you haven’t done so already, please can you ensure that you have paid for your child to go on the trip to The Ashmolean. If we do not receive sufficient funds to cover the costs then we may not be able to run this or future trips.
Home-learning:
Children have been sent home with home-learning tasks to complete. Please support your child to get these done over the half-term break. It would be great if children are also practising their times tables and reading. Teachers have set tasks on Sumdog to help support targeted areas of focus.
Important Upcoming Dates:
