Island Reflect & Review3 October 2025 (by Stefan Mitsis (Stefan)) |
What an exciting week it has been! We have had a wonderful mix of experiences, from an inspiring author visit to a special trip to the church for Tahiti class, alongside lots of exciting learning in the classroom.
In topic, the children have moved away from our Mantle of the Expert unit on the Last Mammoth and are now focusing on art. As artists, the children explored the playground, collecting natural materials such as leaves, sticks, and stones. We talked about how artists are often inspired by the environments around them, and the children followed this idea by using their collections to create unique patterns and designs. They experimented with different arrangements, thinking about shape, space, and texture, and created compositions that represented creativity to them. We also introduced the idea that artists can be collectors, carefully selecting objects that inspire their work. The children really enjoyed making art that felt personal, hands-on, and connected to nature.
We were also very lucky to have a special author visit from John Dougherty. The children experienced the magic of poetry and storytelling, joining in with songs and reading. They asked thoughtful questions about life as an author and many of the children left the session feeling inspired and eager to write or read more at home, and it was a wonderful opportunity to see literature come alive in such an engaging way. We are already looking forward to our next author visit.
As part of our wider school community, we have also been celebrating Harvest this week. The children learned about its importance, reflected on how food is grown and shared, and sang songs with great enthusiasm. Tahiti class joined other classes at the church for a special service, which was a memorable chance to come together and celebrate this meaningful event.
Home Learning:
Thank you to all of the children that have completed their home learning and returned it back to school in their folder. Just a reminder that home learning is distributed on a Friday and handed back in on a Wednesday. Please ensure that the children hand in their home learning to their class teachers in their home learning wallet.
