Oceans Reflect and Review26 September 2025 (by Beth I) |
It has been another busy week in Oceans, with lots of units of work coming to an end before we move onto different topics next week - time flies when you’re having fun!
As mathematicians, we focused on place value and rounding. We practised identifying the value of digits in large numbers and got better at rounding them to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000. As we move onto addition and subtraction, we will continue to use our understanding of place value.
As readers and writers, we wrapped up our unit and finished reading our class text. It was exciting to reach the end and reflect on how the characters changed and what themes were explored. We also improved our reading comprehension and writing skills through discussions and related activities.
As historians, we’ve concluded our learning about the Stone Age, and this week we brought history to life by making model Stone Age tools. We used materials like clay, sticks, and string to design our own tools - thankfully no sinew was used! In our writing workshop, we used this experience to write clear and detailed instructions on how to make the tools. It was a great way to combine creativity, history, and literacy.
Next week, we will move on to think about the Romans and ask ourselves how life changed during this period. In writing, we will begin a unit on brochure writing.
We had a wonderful celebration in classes about the home learning that has been completed. It has been lovely to speak to children about how they have shared what we have been learning in school - thank you for your support with this.
Notes -
Please ensure that your child has a healthy snack in school with them.
Today, 7 unnamed jumpers were collected from classroom sides and the cloakroom. All children were asked this morning to check if they were theirs. By the end of the day there were still 5. Please ensure that your child’s name is written on the label of belongings. We will support children to look after their property, but this can be difficult when items aren’t named.
