Oceans Reflect and Review5 September 2025 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
What an amazing start to the new school year it has been! The children have settled in beautifully, showing great enthusiasm and curiosity in their learning.
This week as historians, we have begun our exciting new topic on the Stone Age. The children explored the ancient land of Doggerland, which once connected Britain to Europe. They learned about the lives of the people who lived there before it was flooded and how these communities were forced to migrate to safer places. Together, we considered the challenges they faced, the reasons behind their migration, and how these changes shaped their way of life.
In maths, our focus has been on place value. The children have been reminded of the skills needed to be a great mathematician, practising careful reasoning and problem-solving to build confidence with numbers.
Looking ahead to next week, the children will continue their historical journey by researching hilltop settlements—why they were built on hills, how they were constructed, and what daily life might have been like for the people who lived there. They will also have the opportunity to sketch stones in their sketchbooks, paying special attention to the symbols carved onto their surfaces.
It has been a wonderful start, and we are looking forward to another week full of discovery and creativity!
