Explorers reflect and review7 July 2025 (by Beth Taylor (Beth)) |
A great week last week, and a busy week ahead! Photo caption: Ice breaker activity at Rippon College - building the community web.
As mathematicians Endeavour have been busy ordering and sequencing decimals. Beagle have been working on their fluency skills, particularly improving their recall for times tables facts.
In English, Endeavour have continued learning about Shackleton’s adventures, using drama and role play to imagine what life would have been like for the intrepid explorers.
Beagle have been working on creating presentations all about Antarctica and the explorers that travelled there. This has covered computing, geography, history and English. We completed research, putting this into our own words, using google slides to create our presentations. We presented them to each other on Friday.
Endeavour and Beagle visited Rippon college on Tuesday for their spacemakers retreat, spending the day learning different reflective practices and thinking about their own feelings and thoughts. We created a web of wool as we shared where we would love to be and why.
St Fred’s started their week using their observational drawing skills during art. We took our time to observe what we could see, whilst focusing on lighting and position.
On Wednesday, we enjoyed a science investigation workshop which was delivered by Dr Rowena Fletcher- Wood, from the Royal Society of Chemistry. In Maths we have started our new unit of Tours and looked and compared a number of different graphs as well as combination graphs. During our independent writing lesson, we wrote a story based on ‘Seb’s Dragon’ whilst focusing on using ambitious vocabulary.
Next week:
Monday 7th - swimming and sailing as normal - last sessions.
Wednesday 9th - Endeavour and Beagle - Ice Skating!
A reminder that children will need long sleeved tops and trousers, socks and gloves. They can bring these and put them on at the ice rink or wear them to school. We will be leaving school at 8:30 returning before the end of the school day. We will be having a picnic lunch - please make sure your child has a packed lunch and a water bottle.
Please make sure all permission slips and payments have been handed in/paid online by Tuesday morning at the very latest. Thank you.

As part of the day, we will be welcoming all parents and carers to come and join us from 1.30pm. A fundraising stall will be available for you to have the chance to purchase:

All the money raised will go directly to our school, to help fund enriching experiences for our children.
