Summer 2: Week 3
It’s been a hot week! With the weather likely to continue to be warm, please remember to send your child with a hat, apply sun cream in the mornings and ensure they have a water bottle.
This week has been an assessment week. The children in Oceans have completed Maths, Reading and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar tests.
None of the children should worry about how they performed. The assessments are a snapshot of children’s progress, but do not tell the whole story. We use a broader assessment approach, including ongoing observations and classroom-based assessments, to make our judgment of pupils attainment. Sitting formal tests will be a recurring part of the children’s learning journey. It’s important that they are exposed to the experience: albeit a simpler process that is much more relaxed.
The majority of the children (and a few adults) have wilted post lunch, so this week we’ve made sure that our afternoon activities have been hands-on, practical sessions - lots of building and making.
Just like the rest of the school, this week Oceans have been creating items for the Windrush Celebration Exhibition.
You are all invited to join us, at St Frideswide School, on Monday 23rd June, 12.30 - 15.30.
This special event honours the legacy of the Windrush Generation and showcases the incredible creativity and learning of our pupils, including:
- Children’s Art Displays inspired by Windrush stories and heritage
- Singing Performances from our talented students
- Community Contributions, including photos, stories, and words from local voices
This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community and celebrate the rich cultural history that has helped shape our society.
The exhibition is held in collaboration with the Eyukamba Foundation and The Parish of Cowley and St John. We warmly encourage all parents and carers to attend and support the children’s work. See you there!
Have a great weekend
