Coral Reef Reflect and Review6 June 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
Eid al-Adha Mubarak! To all our families and members of staff who have celebrated today!
Welcome back to the final term of the school year! Our topic this term is called 'Underwater Worlds'. We started our topic by exploring fish and nets in our water tray, creating narratives with pirates and playing a fun Pirate Counting game and lots more.
In our topic lesson, we listened to the Stories 'Only One You' and 'You Be You', and we thought about what makes us special and unique. Afterwards, we decorated pebble fish just like the fish in the story, making sure that our fish looked special and unique and wrote a sentence to say why we are special.
As writers and illustrators, we thought about the story 'Sharing a Shell' by Lydia Monks and Julia Donaldson. The children drew pictures of the Crab character and wrote sentences about him. They thought up new homes for the crab and drew and wrote about things they might find in a Rockpool.
As Mathematicians, we have been playing lots of dice games to help us understand addition and subtraction and noticing that adding increases amounts and subtraction decreases the total amount. We have continued to revise halving and number bonds to 5. Today, we revisited 3D shapes and used our noticing skills to talk about the properties. We will continue to focus on shape next week.
As artists, we have been sculpting figures out of clay for our wonderful Windrush-themed exhibition, which is coming up!
Over the half-term break, Helen took great care of the Caterpillar Chrysalis at home, and across this week, the children have been excited to see some of the butterflies emerge. This afternoon, the children helped release them into our garden, and some were lucky (and brave enough) to hold one or to look closely at it, as it landed on them! We hope to release the others next week!
Thank you for the food cans and money donations today. Your generosity will help many families in Oxford.
