Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review2 May 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
Spring 1 Week 2
This week in nursery, we have continued our exciting exploration of minibeasts. The children are showing great interest and becoming really engaged in their learning and play.
In maths, we have been learning to use positional language. The children are beginning to describe where things are using words like "under," "ontop," and "behind," and are practising saying these without needing to point. It’s been lovely hearing them use these new words confidently during their play.
In phonics, we've been having fun with our voices. The children are exploring different voice sounds to help them become more aware of how words and sounds are made. There’s been lots of laughter as we experiment with silly noises and sounds together.
In the home corner, we’ve introduced real fruits and vegetables. The children have been using their senses to explore the smells and textures, and using these materials in pretend play. They’ve been coming up with creative food ideas and stories, showing lots of imagination and curiosity.
At the playdough table, we’ve been making our own bugs using tinker trays filled with googly eyes, lollipop sticks, marbles, and feathers. The children are joining different materials and exploring textures as they bring their bug creations to life.
Our tuff tray has been turned into a bug hotel this week, complete with magnifying glasses. The children have been exploring natural materials closely and talking about what they see using a wide range of vocabulary. It’s sparked some brilliant discussions and observations.
Over at the creative table, the children have been making clay bugs, developing their own ideas and choosing tools to shape their creations. They’ve also been doing observational drawings of bugs, carefully looking at the details. Alongside this, we’ve been creating colourful fruits for our Hungry Caterpillar display and talking about healthy eating and different kinds of fruit.
In the water tray, children have enjoyed catching bugs using nets. This activity has helped develop their hand-eye coordination while providing lots of sensory, splashy fun.
In our NELI group sessions, we’ve been reading Dinosaur Rocket. We’ve been learning and using exciting new words like “moon,” “splash,” “quiet,” and “brave” in our stories and play, helping to build confidence with language and communication.
Spare clothes.
As the weather gets warmer, the children are enjoying more water play throughout the day. Please ensure your child has at least two spare sets of clothes in their bag. We do not have any spare clothing available at nursery, so without extras, your child may need to go home in wet clothes.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the bank holiday.
