Summer Term Wk1
Great to have everyone back.
In Maths this week we’ve been looking at time. As well as looking at how many minutes there are in an hour, we’ve been recapping how many minutes there are in an hour, hours in a day, days in a week and days in a year. With our minutes in an hour knowledge, we’ve made and looked at clocks: identifying the link between telling the time and the 5 times table. We’ll continue to look at time next week: reading digital clocks, thinking about am and pm and converting time from analogue to digital.
Maths Home Learning: WhiteRose Workbooks, p101
In English, we’ve started new units. Pacific and Arctic looking at Charlotte’s Web (writing diary entries and justifying the feelings of the characters) while Indian are creating and adding text to a picture book: The Flood.
In Science we’re started to look at plants. To help us explore the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil) we’ve set up an experiment that will continue into next week and beyond. Setting up simple practical enquiries and thinking through the elements of a ‘fair test’ are key element of scientific enquiries: here the children are monitoring a range of seedlings and predicting what will happen when they remove light, water and nutrients from soil in varying degrees.
In music, ahead of our trip to the cutty sark, we’ve started singing sea shanties. Please ensure you have returned the permission slip for the Cutty Sark trip (Tues 6 May). If you have any questions or queries about the trip please speak to your class teacher as soon as possible next week.
Have a great weekend
