Explorers reflect and review25 April 2025 (by Beth Taylor (Beth)) |
Photo caption: Beagle enjoyed looking at maps this week, starting by identifying the location of different places in the world.
Explorers have had a busy first week back.
As writers:
Discovery have continued reading chapters from Otters’ Moon and focused on writing a summarising paragraph by interfering information from the text, whilst focusing on using a range of punctuation and correct sentence structure.
Endeavour have had a whistlestop tour through the Midnight Fox by Betsy Byars. Lots of the children have asked to borrow the book to read at home so you may spot one in your child’s bag this weekend. Please encourage them to read it and return it once they have finished.
Beagle have begun to look at science-fiction, exploring story ideas that involve robots. We have written blurbs for our own story ideas, before beginning to explore the story “A tale of two robots”.
As mathematicians:
Discovery has been working on understanding kilograms and kilometres and how to convert units of time. Next week we will be focusing on measuring volume.
Endeavour and Beagle have been classifying and estimating angles and will be using protractors next week to measure angles.
Endeavour have had a busy week in topic this week with a deep dive into the history of the USA, exploring the vast geography of the country and some of the key features. On Thursday, we had a virtual visit from the Chemistry Department at Oxford University where we looked at monomers and polymers and explored how monomers are turned into polymers and made our own UV bead bracelets, perfect for the sunny weather! Endeavour concluded their week with Fiona, creating their own Pop Art creations, taking inspiration from Lichtenstein and Warhol.
Beagle have also been looking at North America this week, honing in our map skills, identifying geological features, particularly focusing on the USA before creating a timeline of North American history.
Thank you to the year 6 children who have attended their early morning tutoring sessions, if your child was selected for one of these sessions please encourage and support them to attend.
