    Explorers Weekly Reflect and Review

    19 April 2024 (by Sereeta Raj-Singh (Sereeta))

A fantastic start to the term!

All the children have settled back in very quickly and are ready to learn. The year 6 children have worked incredibly hard and completed a mock SATs assessment week. They demonstrated great perseverance and shone their light. Year 5s have been busy learning about angles focusing on identifying and classifying angles.

In English we have begun our new unit of Ancient Greece and the children are enjoying learning about the Olympics as well as who the Spartans and Athens were. Why not ask your child which city they thought was more democratic and had a better justice for their citizens.

Year 6 PE is now on Tuesday and Wednesday, please ensure your child is wearing the correct PE kit on these days. The children have been really excited with the sports this term of which consist of table tennis and basketball.

PE for year 5 is on Mondays.

On Tuesday, Discovery class had the wonderful opportunity of working with Magdalen college to continue practising the play of Julius Caesar. It was fantastic to see the children get into their characters. Be sure to ask your child what role they are playing and encourage them to practise their lines.

On Wednesday the children went to Church and enjoyed the Easter Eucharist service. During the service a number of children chose to take a holy blessing. The children sat and sang beautifully through the service. Reverend Liam commented on what a great service it was!

It was lovely to speak to so many parents for parents' evening. If you missed your appointment please email explorers to reschedule.

    Next week:

Year 5 will be measuring and drawing angles in Maths whilst Year 6 will focus on reviewing key learning - the four operations in Endeavour and fractions, percentages and decimals in Discovery. Please support your child to continue their learning at home to help them achieve their very best.

We will begin our sentences stacking lessons in English based on creating a detailed timeline for ancient Greece as we revisit our grammar and punctuation knowledge understanding, identifying word classes and applying them in our writing.

During topic the children will be researching the similarities and differences between our school and school life in Ancient Greece.

On Tuesday Discovery class will be working with Magdalen college to practise and tweaking their performance, ready to perform to our community - date to be confirmed.

    Have a lovely weekend.
