    Coral Reef Reflect and Review

22 March 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

We have packed in lots of exciting learning this week and it has been great to see how engaged the children have been.

This week we have been focusing on the story 'Once There Were Giants' The Giants in the story were family members belonging to a baby who then grew up to become a giant herself. The children have been historians by thinking about their own past and talking about how we change and grow. They have also begun writing about what they want to achieve in the future and they have high aspirations!

In Maths the children have been focusing on numbers 9 and 10 and exploring how these numbers are made up of other numbers and have began to think about the different ways we can see 10 and how we know it is 10. We have also continued to think about adding 1 to numbers up to ten and are learning that this is the same as 1 more than a given number.

As artists we have been using watercolour paints to do observational paintings of Tulip Flowers. The children have been really interested in learning how to mix colours to create new colours, for example mixing red and blue to make purple.

In PE we continued to create spring bunny dances and dancing with a partner to music. With our sports coach the children enjoyed navigating a giant obstacle course and trying not to touch the cones by moving in different ways over or around them.

Each week the children enjoy taking turns to tell us their own stories which we record on paper, then at the end of the day the children get to perform their story on our imaginary stage! It has been wonderful to see how much detail and language the children are now using in their stories and these 'Helicopter Story' sessions  is definitely  one of the children's favourite times of the week.

Next week we will be visiting the Boundary Brook Nature Reserve for our Easter Egg Hunt and Wild Rumpus on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon from 12.30. If you are able to come along to help please let us know!

In RE we will be thinking about why Christians put a Cross  in an Easter Garden and learning about some of the traditions around the Easter Celebration.

Don't forget to bring in your decorated Easter Hat/Bonnet on Wednesday for our judging- we cant wait to see all of your designs!

Easter Bonnet Parade will be on our playground on Thursday morning at 10.45 all parents invited but please be prompt as we will be closing the gates at 10.50. Children do not need to bring bags or bottle or lunchboxes to school. You will be able to take your child home from the playground after the Parade has finished!

Reminder - All children should be in their school uniform everyday. As we begin to move into the Spring/Summer weather and you begin to purchase Summer uniforms for your child, please ensure it is the correct uniform before making any purchases. We are aware that it is very difficult to find maroon/burgundy school dresses, so it has been decided that the summer dresses can also be PINK. We have checked and PINK gingham school dresses are available at ArgosSainsburys, and Asda George.

All summer dresses should be maroon/burgundy or pink NOT RED as this is not our school uniform.

    Parents Evening - 17th April 3-7pm.

All parents meetings will be via phone appointment at an agreed time. Parents will be able to speak to your child's key person on Wednesday 17th April. We will be on the gate with our clipboard next week.

If you would prefer to have a google meet appointment, rather than a phone call. Please email your child’s phase email address coralreef@stfrideswides.co.uk to arrange a meeting at a given time. Additionally if you are unavailable at the allotted time, please let your child's class teacher know so that they can act accordingly.
