    Explorers reflect and review

23 February 2024 (by Beth Taylor (Beth))

An exciting week, beginning our study all about space!

This week we have been historians, learning about the space race! We have looked at key events and created timelines, showing important dates and understanding their significance. We really enjoyed being able to see some of the replicas and parts of actual rockets that have been to space at the Science Museum.

We also loved Frozen the Musical, bringing to life the well known story with incredible sets, music and the all important costume changes.

As mathematicians this week we have been looking at decimals, focusing on place value, as well as using them within calculations.

In English we have begun to study the book “Cosmic”, where the main character has ended up in space!

    Next week:

We will be continuing to look at the space race in history, looking at the impact that this has had on society, before moving on to look at Space, light and sound in Science.

For many of our maths and English lessons we will be completing past SATs papers as part of assessment week, along with continuing with Cosmic and decimals.

On Thursday we are taking part in a Cyber Champions workshop:

    Cyber Champions Parent  Workshops

Launched in 2011, Cyber Champions is a not-for-profit, community giveback initiative which will be delivering free, in person, digital literacy and cyber skills workshops to Years 3-6 at St Frideswide School on the 29th February. Cyber Champions recognises that parents and guardians may also benefit from additional support in a fast-paced digital world and so will be delivering a, free of charge, parent & guardian workshop from 15:00 – 16:00 on the 29th February.  Complete this form to book your place.

We also have a maths workshop coming soon for any adults who would like to attend:

Do you find maths tricky and struggle to support your child with their maths homework at home? Or find managing money and finances a challenge? If you are aged 19 and over and live in Oxford, we are offering parent workshops to support you. The sessions will be run by friendly faces from the St Frideswide team. Please complete this google form, email the office@stfrideswides.co.uk or speak to Menna or Ria on the gate at the end of the day.
