    Coral Reef Reflect and Review

9 February 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

This week we have been learning about how different faiths and communities celebrate new year. We learnt that lots of these celebrations happen in spring and are all linked to having a new start.

As part of our learning the children learnt about Chinese New Year, Nowruz( Persian New Year) and Holi. The children found out about the rituals and traditions of these celebrations and thought about the what they celebrate and how. On our making table the children enjoyed learning how to make Chinese Lantern decorations out of paper! We looked at Spring and learnt about some of the changes we might start to see in our environment. I wonder if you will spot any whilst you are out and about over half term- perhaps you might see snow drops, daffodils or lambs?

In Maths we have been learning different ways to make numbers 6,7 and 8. We have been learning to count in steps of ten and practising quick recall of our doubles and halving facts. Don't forget to help your child to practise their Maths at home on  Sumdog.

In PE we made shapes with our bodies on different body parts and enjoyed playing The Bean Game and dancing with ribbons.

We learnt a Poem about pancakes- perhaps you will be having pancakes on Tuesday?

As part of Safer Internet day we learnt how we can keep safe and be kind when using devices and going online at home. We learnt an important phrase 'BEFORE YOU TAP AND CLICK, YOU NEED TO STOP AND THINK AND TELL SOMEONE>  The children talked about what they like to do online and  who they could ask for help when using their devices at home.

After half term we will be thinking about the classic story 'Where The Wild Things Are. We will be looking at maps and journeys and designing and making our own maps and monsters.

We hope you all enjoy half term whatever you are doing and we will see you again on Monday 19th February.
