    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

2 February 2024 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

This week as geographers, we identified the characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas and how post and mail travels around the world.

Next week we will be exploring the big question - Who is God to Muslims? The children will explore what respect is and how we can be respectful beings. We will also consider some attributes that Muslims might believe that Allah has and explain the ways a Muslim might show respect to Allah in their lives. To end the week we will share what we do to show people who are special to us that we care.

Following the success of Little Coders after school club for KS1 we are delighted to be able to continue to offer Little Coders and introduced Coding for KS2 after school on Wednesdays.  Please make sure to sign up soon to guarantee a space for your child.

    Date for your diary-

Wednesday 17th March - Postal Museum in London.

A letter has gone home with all children in Islands. This was a hugely successful trip the last time we visited and one of the team's favourite experiences for the children. We still need a handful of parent volunteers so if you have not already spoken to Lauren about joining, please do asap.

Thank you for the feedback on homework in Islands. To clear up any confusion, please use the following as a guide to support your child unless you have been told otherwise:

Oxford Owl - Year 1 (select year 2's) will have their books set accordingly. This changes as their text changes in class so there is no set day but they will always have one available. A book bag book linked to their in class learning will be given to your child each week.

Spelling - Accessible on the Learn Platform each Friday for the following week. All quizzes take place on Thursdays.

Sumdog- Task - this will be set Friday to Wednesday each week.

White Rose Maths-  Pages will be set on the weekly reflect and review and dated for the Friday.

Oxford Reading Buddy - All children have access, however year 1's do not need to do both platforms (unless they choose to), we ask that they prioritise their Oxford Owl as it is set phonetically. Year 2's should be using this platform and their library book.

All homework and books are collected in on Wednesdays.  Children are given their golden time for their efforts and hard work on a Wednesday afternoon. We use this time to mark, support, complete spelling quiz and acknowledge each child’s hard work before giving all children their books back on Friday.

    White Rose Maths:

    Year 1 - Pages 55,56 and 57

    Year 2- Pages 52, 53 and 54

    Have a lovely weekend,
