    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

26 January 2024 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

This week in Islands we have been exploring printing as artists.

We started the week with making prints in clay and dough, designing our own stamp following on from our learning from last week when we began looking at the Postal System. We then recreated our stamp on a polystyrene tile and then experimented with different prints using acrylic paint and rollers.

The children designed their own stamps with the Penny Black Stamp in mind, adding their own unique twist. Each print was different and the children took on their role as an artist very seriously.

Next week, we will take on the role of geographers. We will be identifying the characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas and how post and mail travels around the world.

Please send your child in with a variety of junk modelling resources (recycling materials) as they will need plenty in their lesson on Monday afternoon.

    Date for your diary-

Wednesday 17th March - Postal Museum in London.

A letter will go home with all children in Islands on Monday, please email islands@stfrideswides.co.uk if you have any questions after receiving the letter.

All children need to be in their PE kit on Thursdays and Fridays. All children across the Islands phase will participate in electives that require their PE kit on these days.

    Homework - White Rose Maths

    Year 1 - Pages 48,49 and 50

    Year 2- Pages 48,49 and 50

    Spelling -

All spellings can be found on the Learn platform under the subheading spellings. All purple books have logins for the learn platform.

Only a small number of children are handing in their homework each week. Please support your child with their homework, it is really important that they have the opportunity to consolidate their learning and practise such important skills to help them in their learning journey.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Islands team.
