    Coral Reef Reflect and Review

19 January 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

We have loved exploring ice this week and we were especially lucky as the weather has been so cold that the children were able to discover ice in our garden too!

The children have been painting with ice, playing with it in our tuff trays and exploring ways to melt it. In our topic sessions the children looked at maps and learnt that Emperor Penguins are located in Antarctica. The children watched drone footage of Antarctica and have started to write facts about Antarctica in their own Fact File books.

In Drawing Club the children have been thinking about the wonderful book 'Geronimo' by David Walliams the Children have been developing their drawing and imagination by drawing the character Geronimo, objects to help him fly and even designed a crown for him to wear. We have been encouraging the children to write labels, captions and sentences to accompany their drawings.

In Maths the children have been developing a deep understanding of numbers to five and understanding what zero means. They have also continued to practise halving amounts and doubling.

In Music we have been playing percussion instruments in different ways and adding music to stories.

In our PE dance session the children pretended to explore the snow and moved their body to become snowmen and snowstorms.

Next week we will be Scientists by finding out how to melt ice. We will be thinking about the clothing we wear in winter and learning what animals do in the winter to survive. We will continue to write in our Fact Files too.

We will be revisiting the Cowley Library and selecting some new books to borrow.

As artists we will be exploring collaging, using different types of paper and fabric.

In Drawing club we will be focusing on the story 'Penguin'

In a couple of weeks we will be going Ice skating! Please check your child's bookbag for all of the information.

Please encourage your child to complete their online reading on Oxford Owl as well as doing their bookbag reading. All of the children now have a login for Oxford Reading Buddy and we would like all children to access this too. If you are unsure please speak to us and we can help you.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
