    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

1 December 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

This week, Islands continued to be scientists, exploring natural and man made materials.

The children sorted a wide range of materials according to their properties. They thought about why certain objects were made out of certain materials and investigated what materials might work better if changed.

As geographers on Thursday, we explore the world, England, the United Kingdom, Oxford and our local community on different maps. We recalled the names of important places and looked for familiar places like Florence Park, Cowley, Littlemore, Blackbird leys and other surrounding locations.

As Artists, we then sketched natural objects onto our maps and created our very own masterpieces using a variety of mark making tools. We have now displayed these in the gallery in school for all to see.

Next week we will be rehearsing for our show ‘Captain Cat and the Carol Singers’ which we will be performing on Wednesday 13th December Captain Cat and the Carol Singers - St Mary & St John Church, Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 1UH at 10:00am. All parents are welcome to come and watch Islands perform.

All children were given the song sheets to practise their singing at home. They have also been given their part and what clothing they will need to wear. Please send your child’s clothing in with them in a named bag on Wednesday 6th December.

Thursday 7th December - Christmas Jumper Day.

    Have a great weekend,

    Islands Team
