As Historians this week we have explored the story ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’ and talked about what was significant in this story. We thought about what was happening to the soldiers and the children shared stories that they had heard from their family members who could remember life during this time. 

We sketched, created, collaged and painted poppies during the week and wrote golden sentences together about the significance of the poppy. On Wednesday the children worked together to recreate their own war memorial and shared prayers for people who have experienced or are experiencing war and conflict in their lives. 

Next week we will continue to learn about World War 1 and 2, looking specifically at significant people in the past. We will start the week thinking about how our lives differ from Walter Tull and his significance in history as the first black officer in the British Army. We will continue to investigate the past through timelines, looking at what life was like in the trenches and for the changing roles of women during this time. 

All children that handed in their purple books will have their new spellings in their book. Additionally, these will be added to the learn platform for your children to practise. 

Maths Year 1 and 2 - Pages 23, 24 and 25 - If you need help understanding methods please speak to your child’s class teacher. All children have been learning their current unit in class. Please complete this week’s Homework Task on Sumdog.
