    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

20 October 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

This week we have taken on the role of artists exploring and drawing natural objects.

The children were introduced to the idea that artists can be collectors: they go out into the world, look at things in new ways, and bring things back to the classroom to inspire their art. Islands explored observational drawing and experimental mark making, and thought about how they could use composition to create their artwork.

The skill that we focused on mastering the technique of sketching. The children have experimented by altering the thickness of lines and some children have started to use a wide variety of techniques using a number of different implements showing a good understanding of lines.

The first week back after half term, we will be exploring different symbols and their meanings in our RE block week. We will be thinking about why different symbols are used to represent special occasions, religions and faiths.

As part of our Spanish curriculum we explore different customs and festivals of Spanish speaking countries. On Wednesday 1st November we will be celebrating All Saints Day, this is a joyful time that helps people remember their family members that are no longer with us and celebrate their memory. During this afternoon, we will be making masks, celebrating our loved ones and listening to the soundtrack from Disney’s Coco.

A huge thank you to parents who were able to join us for our Harvest Messy Church, we hope you enjoyed it as much as the children.

    Maths- Pages 20-22

Sumdog- The children requested a competition for their Sumdog home learning this half term. All children that take part will be entered into a prize drawing which we will celebrate on Monday 30th October.

Please continue to read with your child over half term, but most importantly take the time to relax, reset and enjoy family time together!

    Have a happy half term,

    Islands team.
