    Explorers reflect and review

6 October 2023 (by Beth Taylor (Beth))

A great week; diary writing, solving maths problems and being biologists.

Explorers have really enjoyed getting stuck in with Biology this week. As scientists, we have been learning all about adaptation and evolution. We have thought about how animals have adapted to survive best in their environments, and how this can lead to evolution.

As writers we have been writing our own diary entries from the point of view of a child during World War II, based on The Diary of Anne Frank.

As mathematicians we have been focusing on multiplication and division, looking at area models and grid methods, or finalising our work on addition and subtraction, focusing on inverse operations.

    Next week:

We are continuing to focus on Evolution and Inheritance in Science, looking into Charles Darwin and the evidence that fossils provide us with.

In English we are looking at the poem “It’s never just a book” and having a go at writing our own poetry.

In maths we are beginning to look at or  continuing with multiplication and division, deepening our understanding of a range of methods and when best to use each one.

    Homework:

    Maths year 5: pages 13-15

    Maths year 6: pages 17-19

    Spellings: pages 10-11

Year 5 are swimming again on Monday.

On Thursday, straight after school, we are running a session on SATs, what they mean for year 5 and 6, and the expectations for the year. All children will be taken to the dock, unless after school club, where you will be able to come through and join us from 2:50 after collecting children from other year groups. This will last approximately half an hour. We look forward to seeing you.
