    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

29 September 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

As historians this week, Islands have investigated and interpreted the past through their prehistoric workshop and their own personal timelines.

We started the week taking part in an incredible workshop where we explored what life was like during the Stone Age. The children listened to stories, explored real life materials, stepped into the role of hunger-gathers and some children even joined the deer tribe. This experience offered hands-on learning and allowed the children to deepen their knowledge as historians.

We then recounted changes that have occurred in our own lives through pictures and shared experiences. The children loved sharing their pictures together in class. It really encouraged them to verbally share their experiences and changes that have occurred in their lives. The children then used the pictures to write about themselves and what they can remember. One child said “I then started school and it was the best day of my life, I am 5 you know”.

Next week will be our RE week where we will be asking the question - Who should we follow? Children will explore what it means to be a good leader and what qualities a good leader should have. They will recognise the importance of leaders in society and even take part in a vote for someone to be a leader of our classroom for the day…

If your child would like to be voted - Islands Leader - please encourage them to write a speech about why they should be chosen and what will make them a good leader. They can bring this into school on Monday.

Next week in English, the children will be following instructions and creating their very own Woolly Mammoth ready for our independent instruction writing week. Every child will need an empty milk bottle to take part. Please send your child with their empty milk bottle on Monday. If you have extras they will be much appreciated.

White Rose Maths Homework- Year 1 and 2 Pages 10, 11 and 12. This needs to be handed in on Wednesday mornings as the children mark and look through their completed homework in their fluency lessons.

    Have a great weekend,
