    Ocean's Weekly Reflect and Review

8 September 2023 (by Menna (Menna))

We've had a busy, sticky and messy week in Ocean's phase this week. The children have settled in well and have been bravely battling the heat.

We have been busy learning about history (and prehistory) this week. We've placed key events in chronological order, thought about what a time line is before we've started at the beginning and have studied palaeolithic man. The children busily researched the Lascaux caves in computing before taking inspiration from the cave art as they created their own cave paintings on Thursday afternoon using charcoal. Despite charcoal getting everywhere, they did a remarkable job of cleaning up afterwards!

In English we've begun to explore what a persuasive holiday brochure looks like and next week we'll begin learning about the Neolithic settlement of Skara Brae in Orkney. In maths we've started exploring place value and have been busy partitiioning, ordering and representing numbers in different ways which we'll continue next week.

On Thursday and Friday, the children will be visiting the Ashmolean - Indian and Arctic will go on Thursday and Pacific on Friday. Please email in if you are able to join accompany us on the trip - we'll be exploring the different art from history as part of our new project with the Oxford Song Festival (formerly Oxford Lieder) and will be performing in a famous historical building in December again (exact dates are to be confirmed).

Home learning logs have gone out today complete with an example and explanation for how to complete their reading log. The new maths home learning books will go out next Friday, thank you to everyone who has sent £5 in already or paid on Pupil Asset.

As always, please contact us at oceans@stfrideswides.co.uk if you have any questions or catch us at the end of the day.

    Have a restful weekend,

    The Oceans team.
