    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

9 June 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

As geographers this week, we have continued to explore amazing places and spaces in the United Kingdom. Children have been consolidating their learning by reciting the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom and where they can find them on a map. They have been labelling and naming the capital cities and oceans.
All children wrote a leaflet that provided information about each country and what specifically you could find if you were to visit. They are able to recall landmarks, rivers, mountains, what a place is like, what you might need to take when visiting and what the weather might be like.

We have been working on what it means to be collaborative and demonstrating this in the classroom and outside. Children have been taking on roles in small groups to explore collaboration and linking this to our values.

Next week we will be architects in Art. We will be exploring the work of Hundertwasser, who is best known for his paintings characterised by colourful, ornamental, and biomorphic shapes. The children will recreate a famous landmark either keeping it the same or putting their own spin on it.

All children will have 15 minutes golden time on Friday afternoon. To earn their additional bonus golden time all children need to compete - daily 15 minutes reading and sumdog. They also need to have completed their spelling and handwriting task which will be send home on Monday due to having the fire engine fun this week.

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe in the sun!
