    Explorers Reflect and Review

19 May 2023 (by Beth Taylor (Beth))

This week Explorers have been working on our newspapers based on The Midnight Fox, co-ordinates and exploring electricity.

The last of the SATs were sat this week, so we can now say a massive well done to all of the year 6’s for working incredibly hard on these, and to the year 5’s for coping well with the alternative timetabling.

Explorers have had a great week exploring electricity in Science. We have explored static electricity, completing and evaluating an investigation using balloons and wool, and have begun working on circuits. In English, we have been developing our sentence stacking for our newspaper articles, based on events in the book The Midnight Fox by Betsy Byars, developing our use of emotive language as well as the difference between formal and informal writing. In Maths, we have been working on co-ordinates in up to 4 quadrants, being able to read and plot them accurately (many particularly enjoyed practising these by playing Battle-Ships, of which paper versions are very easy to create if wanting to play at home).

    Next week:

Next we will be continuing to work on electricity, building circuits for different purposes and investigating how these can be adapted, in science. In Maths we will use our co-ordinates knowledge to complete translations and develop our understanding and use of symmetry and reflection. In English we will be planning, writing and editing our own newspaper reports based on The Midnight Fox. We also have a workshop with the Dialogue Society on Wednesday afternoon, which aims to promote equalities, diversity and social inclusion through the sharing of Noah’s pudding.

Swimming will be running on Monday.
