    Ocean's weekly reflect and review

24 February 2023 (by Menna (Menna))

Oceans have had a busy week learning all about rivers both in topic and English.

In Arctic, Indian and Atlantic we've been exploring the structure of the poemThe River by Valerie Bloom, investigating the use of metaphor and creating our own. We'll be continuing next week as we think aboout how a river can be a creator, a hoarder or a singer. Pacific have started the new text 'This morning I met a whale' by Micheal Morpurgo and have been working on creating their own newspaper structure. In maths we've begun our new fractions topic - please support your child at home by recognising fractions of amounts and objects. In Computing, we've been busy using Scratch to create our name and animate it, we had great fun making meowing names which spin and change colour!

Next week we'll be continuing our topic on rivers, thinking about the River Thames. We'll begin to compare fractions and write our own stanzas for our poem.

PE days: Indian and Arctic are on Mondays and Tuesdays. Pacific are on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The new home learning grids have gone home today along with the topic webs and they are on the school website. We have reminded children of the home learning expectation in Year 3 and 4:

    • Sumdog or TTRS every day for at least 10 minutes
    • Reading every day for 30 minutes - either using Oxford Reading Buddy or their banded reading book from the library
    • Spellings and handwriting - given out every Friday which need to be practised ready for the class spelling check.
    • Topic home learning from the topic grid.

If your child has not completed their home learning, we will let you know by email and they will need to complete it in their golden time. Home learning is to support your child in their learning at home, please support them by reminding and helping them to access it.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    The Oceans team.
