Reflect and Review

Term 6 Week 6

Another hot week has flown by in The Quay! Our learning focus has been the second week of bridges. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the theme in a range of practical and engaging ways. They have designed, built and tested their own bridges using a variety of materials and have looked at different bridges from around the world, developing their understanding of how structures can be made strong and fit for purpose.

Thursday's Water Day was a real highlight. The children enjoyed cooling off together while developing their communication, social interaction and turn-taking skills through shared play experiences.

Transition activities have continued throughout the week, and it has been wonderful to see how confidently the children are moving between classes. The relationships developing between the Coots and Moorhens children have been particularly positive, with the children welcoming one another into their environments and beginning to build friendships. This has given us confidence that they have a secure foundation for their new classes in the next academic year.

Story time has remained a favourite part of the day. We all know several different versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff now, and the children have enjoyed comparing characters, joining in with repeated phrases and retelling the story in their own way.

Next week Coots class are looking forward to beginning our exciting seaside and pirate theme. Our new core text will be The Legend of Black Rock, alongside revisiting favourites including Commotion in the Ocean and The Rainbow Fish. We will also be learning pirate songs, exploring seaside-themed continuous provision and celebrating the end of another fantastic year of learning together.
