We were so impressed with the children's behaviour at the museum and it was lovely to see how interested they were in the different artifacts and exhibits and they really enjoyed seeing a range of bugs and insects especially the live ones! 

As Geographers the children looked at aerial maps of our school and garden and they marked on the maps where the insects would live. We also viewed our garden from an upstairs window and again located the places where bugs might live. Lots of the children decided that mostly bugs wouldn't like to live on artificial grass. Afterwards the children worked in small teams using a range of loose parts such as wooden blocks and pebbles to create a physical map of our garden. There was some fantastic team work and conversations between the children and they all produced some wonderful maps. 

As writers we have been writing sentences linked to The Giant Jam Sandwich story' They learnt some exciting new vocabulary and included it in their sentences. 

As Artists the children have been working on creating some relief sculptures of bugs- by joining and layering different cardboard shapes with glue and today the children have enjoyed painting their bug sculptures using lots of bright colours. They really are impressive! 

As Musicians we have been solo singing and using a drum to play in time to a pulse. 

In Maths the children have continued to practice counting and ordering numbers to 20 and beyond and develop their understanding of teen numbers and how these numbers are made by playing games involving ten frames, dice and Numicon tiles. 

Our Caterpillars continue to grow and we think that they might have transformed into their Chrysalis' when we return to school on Tuesday- Helen is taking a couple home so that she can photograph the changes.

We have been lucky enough to receive some tomato growing kits. You child might have brought home a tomato growing kit. Please help your child to plant their seeds and nurture their tomato plant at home and we would love you to email us some photos! We will be planting some at school too! 

Next week we will be thinking about Bees through the story animation Bee and Me.

As artists we will be using Oil Pastels to draw giant bugs inspired by the microsculpture artist Levon Biss.

We will be learning how to control Bee Robots called Beebots and thinking about positional language. 

In Maths we will be beginning our Sunflower Challenge and using our noticing skills when looking at sunflowers and sunflower seeds.
