Oceans reflect and review

What a brilliant and busy first week back we have had!

The children have returned to school with fantastic enthusiasm and have worked incredibly hard across all of our learning.

As writers, we have begun our exciting new topic based on The Iron Man. The children explored an extract from the story and made thoughtful predictions about what might happen next. They also created expanded noun phrases to describe the Iron Man, using adventurous vocabulary and imaginative ideas to bring the mysterious character to life.

In Indian, as mathematicians, we have started our new unit on statistics. The children have been learning how to collect and interpret data using pictograms and bar charts. They enjoyed answering questions about different sets of data and have begun drawing their own charts carefully and accurately. It has been wonderful to see the children growing in confidence when explaining what the data shows and comparing results.

In Arctic class, we have started looking at directional vocabulary, including clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns. We ended the week looking at right angles which we will build on next week.

As scientists, we have been investigating sound. The children explored how sounds are made and discovered that vibrations travel through materials to our ears. We also investigated how to make sounds louder and quieter by changing the strength of vibrations. The class particularly enjoyed the practical experiments and making predictions before testing their ideas.

A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us at the Pegasus Theatre on Tuesday for our Marmaduke musical performance. The children worked incredibly hard learning the songs, practising the dances, whilst building on their confidence in order to perform.  They sang beautifully and performed with so much energy and enthusiasm — we were extremely proud of every single one of them! Thank you for your continued support; it made the experience even more special for the children.

Homework:

Home learning has been sent out with all children. This week, they also have spag as well as maths.

Next Tuesday, the year 4 children will be completing their multiplication assessment therefore, please continue to support your child in practising their times tables. All children should be reading daily. They have their library books and access to Oxford Reading Buddy, again if you have any questions or require your child’s login details, please email us. Please support your child to complete these tasks, if you are unsure then please get in touch with your child’s class teacher.

Notices:

On Thursday, both Indian and Arctic we will participate in the second day of the science workshop. We are all looking forward to this.

Have a lovely weekend
