Term 2 Week 1

A Community of Learners

It has been another lovely week in The Quay and Aegean, and it was wonderful to see so many of our families at Parents' Evening. We really value these opportunities to share the children's achievements, celebrate their progress and talk together about their next steps. We look forward to catching up with our remaining families next Wednesday.

Now that we are into the second half of the autumn term, one of the most rewarding things to reflect on is just how well we have all come to know one another. Relationships between children and adults have really blossomed, and it is particularly lovely to see the positive relationships developing between the children themselves. We are seeing more examples of children working together, encouraging one another, sharing their knowledge and even helping each other to learn. These moments are just as important as the academic achievements we celebrate.

Across Aegean, Moorhens and Coots, we continue to reflect on our practice and make adjustments to ensure that every child has the very best opportunities to learn and succeed. Sometimes these are small changes to routines, resources or the environment; at other times, they involve finding a completely different way to approach learning. What matters is recognising that every child is different and that our teaching needs to be responsive to their individual strengths and needs.

It is particularly exciting to see how these adjustments are translating into academic progress. Across the classes, children are developing their reading, writing and mathematical understanding, and we are increasingly seeing them apply their knowledge with greater confidence and independence. In fact, some children have genuinely surprised us with what they can achieve! We are seeing levels of reading, writing and mathematical thinking that remind us how important it is to have high expectations while providing the right support and opportunities.

These achievements reinforce something we feel strongly about in The Quay: children's learning should never be limited by assumptions about what they can or cannot do. When children feel safe, understood and connected, and when learning is presented in a way that works for them, they can often achieve far more than we might initially expect.

As we move further into the term, we are incredibly proud not only of the academic progress being made but also of the kindness, confidence, independence and sense of community developing across The Quay.

Our safe harbour is becoming a place where children are not only learning and growing, but helping one another to thrive.
