We are now fully immersed in our first term back at school. Although some of our children would probably still like us to think we are on holiday, they have all stepped into their learning with smiles on their faces and a real commitment to being back at school!

Moorhens & Aegean

This week in Moorhens, we have really enjoyed exploring what St Frideswide’s has to offer. We have once again been making wonderful use of our kitchen, cooking with seasonal ingredients to create homemade treats for our families. This week, we have made delicious apple turnovers and pancakes.

We have also had a wonderful opportunity to explore our outdoor areas, including Forest School. At Forest School, we have been exploring the nature around us and thinking about how we can support it to thrive within our school environment. Two of the children have even begun building their own wildlife observation point, so that we can monitor which animals are making use of our wonderful, secluded Forest School area.

Moorhens & Aegean have also begun karate, where we have been learning to work as a team, collaborate and support our friends when trying activities that are outside our comfort zones. We have practised new moves and begun developing our body control and coordination.

Coots

In Coots, we have also begun to explore the wonderful opportunities that St Frideswide’s has to offer. We have had our first couple of music lessons with Nathan from Oxfordshire Music Service, and we have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to keep a beat while exploring new instruments, including djembe drums and an atometone!

We have also been exploring the story of The Magic Porridge Pot through a range of sensory and practical experiences. We have been getting creative with cooking, water play and Play-Doh activities, while developing our communication, turn-taking and imaginative play skills. We have particularly enjoyed exploring the idea of the magic pot and thinking about what might happen when the porridge keeps on growing!

Both classes have also been working hard to explore different methods of communication and to use the visual tools in their classrooms to support their communication and understanding.

It has been a busy and exciting start to the term, and we are looking forward to seeing what the coming weeks will bring!
