Oceans Reflect and Review

Music, sports and more sunshine.

As writers, we have continued exploring The Iron Man. The children have been developing their descriptive writing by creating a paragraph that explores Hogarth’s first encounter with the Iron Man. They have focused on using ambitious vocabulary and carefully chosen descriptive language to help the reader understand the enormous difference in size between the two characters.

As mathematicians, in Indian we have continued our learning about shape. The children have been identifying and comparing different types of lines, including horizontal, vertical, parallel, and perpendicular lines. They have also explored the properties of different triangles, learning to recognise and describe equilateral, isosceles, and scalene triangles, while using mathematical vocabulary to explain their reasoning.

In Arctic, we have been collecting and recording data. We have created bard charts, pictograms and line graphs and then drawn conclusions from these.

As geographers, the children have been developing their map-reading skills using Ordnance Survey (OS) maps. Working collaboratively in pairs and small groups, they have observed  maps carefully to identify a range of human and physical features. Using map symbols and keys, we created a map for the oceans playgrounds. Some very interesting keys and symbols were created!

A huge thank you to all the families who came to watch our wonderful performance of The Magic Flute at Greyfriars. We were incredibly proud of all the children for their confidence, enthusiasm, and great effort. They performed brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed sharing their hard work with you.

We would also like to thank everyone who joined us for our Sports Festival. It was a fantastic success, and it was wonderful to see the children demonstrating determination, teamwork, resilience, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. They had a great time taking part in the wide range of sporting activities, and it was lovely to round off the event with the picnic.

Next week:

During RE we will be answering the enquiry question 'How does celebrating Shavuot help Jewish children feel closer to God?'

On Wednesday, both Indian and Arctic class will take part in an exciting workshop delivered by Science Oxford, who will be delivering a workshop called Creature Creations. We are very curious to see what will happen.

On Thursday, the Canal River Trust will be visiting to deliver some very important water safety sessions.

Friday 10th July will be the last day that the children are in their current classes. The following Monday will be the start of transition week, where children will have time to meet their new teachers, see their new classrooms and settle in to their new spaces before the summer holidays. Teachers will be speaking to their classes over the next week to help prepare for the changes.

Have a lovely weekend.
