Similes, science and super learning all week long!

This week in English, we began reading The Iron Man. The children have been focusing on using similes effectively in their writing and thinking carefully about the impact their descriptions have on the reader. They have been thinking creatively and using ambitious vocabulary, to describe the shape and size of different parts of the Iron Man’s body.

In Maths, in Indian class, we have now come to the end of our Statistics unit and have been revisiting previous learning to support the children in preparation for assessment week. Arctic class have continued to look at angles and shape.

Both classes have  been working hard on all four operations, as well as solving reasoning and problem-solving questions, helping the children to explain their mathematical thinking clearly and confidently. We have looked at past paper questions and reflected on how to successfully complete an exam paper.

In science, we continued our learning about sound and explored how sound travels through different mediums. The children investigated how vibrations move through solids, liquids and gases and discussed how this helps us hear sounds in everyday life. The children enjoyed taking part in practical investigations and making predictions based on their scientific understanding.

Both Indian and Arctic thoroughly enjoyed the Science Workshop on Thursday, where they explored pH levels and the pH scale through a range of exciting experiments. The children were highly engaged and demonstrated excellent scientific curiosity while testing different substances and discussing whether they were acidic, neutral or alkaline.

Notes -

This week all year 4 children completed their multiplication test. We are incredibly proud of all the children and it has been wonderful to see children taking great responsibility for their learning. This will be super helpful for lessons, home-learning and tests.

Next week is assessment week. The assessments will take place in the classrooms in a calm, relaxed environment, with regular brain breaks provided as needed to help the children feel comfortable and confident. Please ensure your child arrives at school on time each morning to help provide a smooth and settled start to the day. Thank you for your continued support.

Enjoy the weekend
