We’ve had a wonderfully busy week in St Fred’s!

This week, St Fred’s have been geographers. We revisited how to use maps effectively and explored how our local community has changed over time by travelling back in time with Digimaps. We also created our own maps of the school grounds, recording key features.

On Wednesday, several children attended their rescheduled transition days. Those of us who remained in school helped Oceans and Islands prepare for the Carnival of Sport in the morning, then designed and made our own board games in the afternoon.

On Thursday, we were athletic superstars as we took part in the Carnival of Sport. We challenged ourselves with throwing, jumping and running activities, and had a fantastic time.

Finally, on Friday, we took part in a vaccine workshop with a researcher, who taught us all about how vaccines work and how the team at Oxford University helped to develop the COVID-19 vaccine.

Next week is set to be another warm one, so please remind your child to leave hoodies at home and to apply deodorant before coming to school.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Menna and Caitlin

    This week

This week has been full of fun, creativity and water! We have been off timetable, exploring different ways to stay cool. The children researched how to stay safe in hot weather and put their ideas into practice. In Geography, we used the concept of ‘If the World Were a Village’ to compare how the world has changed over the past decade and to make predictions about what may happen over the next ten years. Unfortunately, many of our trips were cancelled, but we hope to rearrange Somerville for another day. Children who were in school on Thursday experienced the Harry Potter SPELL day at the Life and Mind Sciences building in town, complete with robes, wands and excellent air conditioning! We finished our days with water battles to cool off before going home.

    Next week

Wednesday 1st July – Spires and Cheney transition day

Thursday 2nd July – Carnival of Sports

Friday 3rd July – Pandemic workshop in the morning with a pandemic researcher

    Reminders

Please remind your child to wear or bring sun cream, a hat and their water bottle. Hoodies can continue to remain at home.

Thank you to everyone who has paid for Paultons Park. If you have not yet paid, please do so on MCAS or send in £38 with the permission slip.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Menna and Caitlin

Our students have been acting as holiday planners, calculating flight and accommodation budgets and mastering currency exchange rates. They are officially ready to help plan your next family getaway!

In music, we are exploring graphic scores, learning that musical notation can take on unique shapes and sizes. This visual approach is preparing the children to compose their own original pieces over the next fortnight.

The Fire Service visited on Thursday to teach us about home, water, and road safety. This was excellent preparation for our trip to Junior Citizens next Wednesday. Ask your child to show you how to test your smoke alarms tonight!

To reward everyone's incredible hard work during SATs and writing moderations, we took a surprise celebration trip to Florence Park. We are immensely proud of every single student! WELL DONE!

    Next week:

Tuesday - Somerville visit, all children 9-2 , lunch is provided

Wednesday - Junior Citizens at Rewley Road. Picnic at Christ Church. Please provide a packed lunch. Leaving at 8:10 - return at 2. Spires transition day.

Thursday  - Harry Potter at Life and Mind sciences AND Sherlock Holmes at the Playhouse. Leaving at 8:15, return 4:30pm. Please let us know if you would like to collect your child from the Playhouse at 3:30. Greyfriars transition day.

For all the trips, we will be walking to and from town. Please make sure your child is wearing their lightweight uniform for the trips, have a water bottle, sun hat and wear sun cream. Please let us know if you would like to join us on the trip.

We kindly ask that children do not bring in any squishies or fidgets that are not on their SEND plan. This will have been agreed in advance with yourself and your child - we have had a huge influx of squishies in the classrooms, they are disruptive to the learning and have been popping in the heat.

We hope you have a well deserved weekend,

    Caitlin and Menna
